Paper pulp can be cast into a number of shapes, using home-made moulds, or making use of pastry, jelly or ceramic moulds.

The pulp used needs to be very smooth, to take on the shape of the mould.  It is best to boil the pulp to ensure the correct consistency is reached.  If the piece is to be hung on a wall, remember to inset a wire hoop into the pulp while it is still wet.

Moulds will need to be greased with petroleum jelly before use.  Leave the piece to dry fully before removing it from the mould, when it should fall out easily. It can then be painted – acrylic paints are best, and will not need any extra coats of varnish.
