Our Charter

From personal experience, we have seen the lack of affordable exhibition space in the Canterbury area, and the lack of local advice for emerging new artists. We have seen a number of promising students graduate from KIAD and Canterbury Christchurch University, only to become disillusioned with the prospect of pursuing a career in art, and take up employment elsewhere. We see this as a tremendous waste of new talent, and wish to provide artists with an opportunity to gain experience in exhibiting, and in promoting themselves. Locus Arts aims to give new artists the opportunity to meet and share ideas and information, linking them with appropriate funding bodies where necessary.

Aims
  1. To promote the visual arts within the Canterbury area with special reference to new artists.
  2. To participate in regional arts events
  3. To advance the education and training of the local community and to promote educational and recreational arts facilities, through workshops and events.
  4. To provide promotional materials for artists at cost price to encourage new talent.

Objectives

In pursuance of these objectives, we aim to organise and promote at least four exhibitions each year. Where these are held in non-specialist spaces, we will provide screens and plinths for the display of art works. Costs will be offset by nominal fees charged to artists, and by commission taken on sale of artworks and associated promotional materials (eg greetings cards).

History of Our Club

Locus Arts has been in existence since 2002. We hold regular exhibitions in the Kent area. New members are always welcome.
