Tania Neave

Tania recently completed a BA in Ceramics at Christ Church University in Kent.

I have been looking at the works of both Barbara Hepworth and Henry Moore, in particular Hepworth’s ‘Palagos’ and Moore’s ‘Bird Basket’. These pieces have always interested me, especially the use of the strung areas, giving the pieces a look of a greater mass (like an extra wall). This can be seen mainly in the Moore piece. The wire is a barrier trapping whatever is on the inside.

My recent work has been greatly influenced by these pieces; I have used areas of sewing, with copper wire. The white not-perfect ball representing self, the sphere the world with its dark inside and white outside showing the façade of what we portray as a perfect world, a perfect life but the barriers of the wire not letting us through to try and change the problems.
